Foreship

Foreship is a globally leading naval architecture and marine engineering consultancy specializing in cruise ships. Employing 100 naval architects, marine & structural engineers, interior & HVAC designers and electrical engineers, Foreship has a strong global footprint and impressive references from the biggest players in the cruise line and cruise ship newbuilding businesses. With Foreship on board, ship owners and builders can continue sailing across the Seven Seas with confidence. In June 2025, joined force with RINA, the multinational TIC and engineering company, through an acquisition.

The Vaaka factor: We were onboard with Foreship during 2019-2025 to support the company’s growth. During this period, the company greatly expanded its client base, solidified its position in conversions and built decarbonization as a second cornerstone of the offering. The company became a globally recognized thought-leader in sustainable maritime engineering with award-winning designs including, for instance, the largest battery ever installed on a cruise ship and a concept for a large (15k TEU) ammonia-fueled containership. All the while the company weathered through the standstill in the cruise industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The big picture: COVID-19, volatile energy prices and climate change have posed significant challenges to cruise lines and shipyards. In both newbuilds and modernizations, there is an ever-increasing need to find new innovative but cost-effective ways which meet the changing consumer expectations and international emission reduction targets. This increases the demand for trustworthy partners like Foreship with globally leading expertise in newbuild and modernization engineering as well as reducing carbon footprint.
